I will use this as a kind of Biography and Resume of my Real Estate Experience for you to understand my background.
I moved back to Southern California in 1976 after several years of "working" on a Mountain Rescue Team in Northern California - Angels Camp in Calaveras County. I had spent the early 1970's working for Cal Div Forestry on the only full time professional rescue team in the U.S. As an "on call" professional rescue team we worked with Sheriff's Departments while on call 24 hours/day for any emergency that might need a technical search or rescue operation. Between searches and rescues I and ten others trained constantly in the back country in order to hone our mountaineering skills including, survival, first-aid, knots and rope-work, cross country skiing, rock climbing, litter work over the sides of cliffs, and many hours of survival and backpacking while using sight tracking and Bloodhounds to "find-the-man". As third in command, my titles / roles were as Team Medic - training the others in first-aid, practicing first-aid on rescues. Carrying also the title of "food-man" and dog handler, I had a lot of well-rounded training and experience. Particularly many exhilarating hours of hanging from ropes on granite faces, ice climbing or carrying a pack full of radios, medical stuff and ropes on a 60 mile trek through the Sierra high country. It was an awsome experience and I could write a book about it. I have many interesting stories that I like to share if you ask.
In late 1976 I found myself having fun working in San Francisco at a Mountianeering shop, but depressed from a lost girlfriend, when my Dad called and asked me to get my California Real Estate License and sell houses for him in East Oceanside at Jeffries Ranch. -- (Please use the "Jeffries Ranch Info" button for more info on this history.) -- So I took him up on it. My father, Dr. C.W. Jeffries, an Orange County psychiatrist, was now also a developer and CEO of his company, Coastal Estates Development Corporation. He had purchased the land near Guajome Lake Park (277 acres) and, having obtained Dept. of Real Estate approval, started building homes. We sold new homes for 3-4 years while JR was built out to the degree Coastal Estates chose to complete it. The economy was bad in 1980, however, so my father decided to quit building. After a few weeks of travel, I went into Yellow Pages ad sales until the real estate market recovered.
Desiring to go into Residential Re-sales, I began working for a Vets/Active Duty -VA home seller and learned that I could continue to sell several homes a month. (In new home sales it can be several in a weekend - no one told me it wasn't that way in re-sales). So after a short warm-up in the business - and having started in late March of 1984, I managed to close on 23 homes the first year! Not bad if you consider that interest rates were 13% to 15%!; But homes were still inexpensive and they appreciated in value at an alarming rate as well. I continued with an average of better than 40 home sales (sides) per year for several years until 1990.
In 1988 I had trained and studied for the Broker's exam and became a Broker (yes, I had passed the first time again, whew!). I went to work for a large firm that marketed for developers, so the name of the new branch I started in Escondido was called Developer's Realty. Using my previous experience as a "site agent" in new home sales at Jeffries Ranch, I sold homes that housing tracts and builders we represented had as "contingent sales" and reported the progress of my listings to the site agents on the tracts. By 1990 I maintained over a dozen listings but nothing was selling. I also worked with developers looking for land to subdivide and create new homes as the economy worstend. Having learned a lot about land and subdividing, I was happy and would use this later in my career.
1990: A recent baby (now Alyssa, my beauty, is 16 - and ready for driver's training!) and soon my new career changing diapers calmed the depression of the ensuing real estate recession. In 1991 I went to work for a local Mortgage Banker (Lender) Mical Mortgage and again specialized in VA/FHAs, but this time on the other side of the bankers' counter from the Real Estate agents. I spent a great deal of time training them while going office to office to bring them up to speed on new programs the industry introduced to offset the recession (CHAFA, CHBP, VA/FHA etc). After the unsettling news of a divorce in 1994 that proved I too was a victim of the Real Estate value rollback and not exactly recession proof, I announced to the mother of my child that I was going back to school. I went to television and video production school and spent the next 4 years in a fascinating business. I produced CD-ROM Video for the largest CD-ROM Developer in San Diego and later freelanced as a producer. I worked with a locally well known Director and had such clients as: Ford Motors, Zevo Golf, Actor Dennis Weaver, Author Neal Donald Walsh - "Conversations with God" and Musical Performer -Kenny Loggins to include in my resume. It was a great creative release for me, I learned a lot and had fun - but for me it was not so lucrative. So after four years ...a new chapter!
In 1998 I woke up to a burgeoning real estate market, renewed my Broker's License and went to work plying my trade once again. Having dirt running in my viens, I worked for several firms while learning a lot about land, lots, and septic, engineering and lot-splits. Working near the development industry has come naturally, as in genetic - or at least handed down from my father - so employing my curiosity and ambition while doing each deal I have created quite a forte in land and small development. A bit restless to find the right company and some security in a tough business I worked for a few different firms including another stint as a Loan Officer for an "on-line" lender, then Krueger Realty then Hanson Realty, finally to form my own company, Jeffries Realty in fall of 2003- just a week later the October Firestorms broke out. So needless to say it was an exciting first year and I have been on fire ever since!
